Initial thoughts: I AM SO PUMPED FOR THE NEXT ONE. THIS IS SO CRAZY. I AM SHOCKED TO THE CORE. BEAUTIFUL.
Also, side note, Everybody else (except the Inner Circle and Rhysand) needs to stop underestimating Feyre. Like… it’s like they pretend Under The Mountain never happened and she didn’t save everyone and kick butt????
Anyway, I’m still reeling from the amount of things that happened back to back in the last couple of chapters. Way to go out with a bang!
FULL REVIEW:
A Court of Mist and Fury (ACOTAR #2)
A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J Maas
Rating: 5/5
Sarah J Maas does a splendid job in this sequel to A Court of Thorns and Roses! (So, for those that haven’t read it, stop now. Obviously, spoilers for the first one. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!) So if you haven’t seen my review for ACOTAR, go ahead and check that out as well (if you want)!
When I finished ACOTAR, I said, “I’m definitely interested to see how Feyre and Rhysand’s relationship progresses in the rest of the series, since she has to be the Persephone to his Hades (which, if you don’t know, Hades isn’t a bad guy. Just got stuck with a bad position!).” and let me tell you, IT WAS BEAUTIFUL. THAT PROGRESSION. THEIR RELATIONSHIP. AMAZING.
ACOTAR was good, but this book blew the first one out of the water! The plot really thickens (like… I didn’t think it could, BUT IT DID) and there was BEAUTIFUL character development. Seriously, character development is my JAM. Like even if the story is mediocre, if the characters have beautiful arcs, I will follow through! But thankfully, the story AND the characters were amazing!
In this sequel, we see Feyre in the aftermath of Under the Mountain. She’s (obviously) suffering with PTSD, but also, we see a different side of Tamlin. I liked him in the first book, but I immediately disliked him in this one. It hurt so much seeing Feyre suffer. But throughout the book, it was so amazing seeing her grow stronger and really realize her full potential! Everyone constantly keeps underestimating Feyre, and it was great seeing them see how wrong they were about her!
Without going into any more of the story, I will say that I fell in love with Rhysand and the Inner Circle immediately! I love the banter and seeing everyone in a different view than was portrayed in the first book! I’ve never had a favorite chapter before, but Chapter 54 was my FAVORITE. Everything about Rhysand was just SO WONDERFUL. (If you’ve read this and want to discuss, I totally will. That chapter alone could be reviewed separately!)
The plot had the perfect amount of filler chapters to give time for things to sink in and really get to know the characters. And then right when you think that thinks can’t get any more intense. BAM. It all culminates into the final ten or so chapters! I couldn’t put it down! And that ending was just STUNNING. Like… I pity those that had to wait for ACOMAF to be published? That must have been BRUTAL.
Just a little warning, I am not a fan of the graphic scenes so I did have to skip a chapter or two. This is definitely for mature audiences! Other than that, I want to take a moment to say that if you start reading this book and like it, BUY THE NEXT ONE BEFORE YOU FINISH ACOWAR OTHERWISE YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SLEEP I PROMISE YOU. The story was SO. WELL. DONE.
Obviously, if you enjoyed the first book, you’ll LOVE this one! If you like sexy romance, men who aren’t afraid to show emotions, witty characters and lovely character development, and kick butt females, this book is for you! Also, if you love intense drama and fighting and fantasy, this is a must read series! I mean, I know I’m late to the party, but I would definitely recommend this to EVERYONE (unless they’re little… I wouldn’t want to scar them haha).
