Always Never Yours REVIEW

Always Never Yours by Emily Wibberley, Austin Siegemund-Broka

Rating: 5/5

I had seen this book around on bookstagram and since I love a good rom-com, I definitely had to read this! I was intrigued by the tagline (“Every guy she dates fall in love… just not with her.”) and when I finally picked it up I was in the mood for something cute like this!

This is a story of a flirty, drama kid named Megan who is known for having relationships that end with the guy falling for someone else. For example, one of her exes (Tyler) is now with her best friend. And another is gay. But what’s cool is that Megan is totally fine with it. In fact, she’s come to terms with her fate and just enjoys her relationships before the inevitable end. BUT, this isn’t just a love story. It’s also a story about a girl who wants to be a director. But in order to apply to her dream school, she has to have an acting credit… and she gets stuck as Juliet.

And on top of that? She’s dealing with her family and feeling like she’s not a part of it anymore.

I really loved Megan. Usually in these kinds of stories, the flirt is seen as the “popular/mean girl” and frankly, it’s getting old. But in this? Megan has that reputation but owns it. She is also known as a great director. And it was really refreshing to see that kind of personality.

I also just really loved the family dynamics and friendships. I don’t want to ruin the entire story (but it’s a rom-com… you know what’s going happen), but what I loved is that even though it was clearly a romance, there was a lot of emphasis on friends and family. I loved that part of the story just as much as I loved the romance.

I’m not a fan of Romeo and Juliet, but the way it was incorporated into this made it fun! I loved how the story was told and how everything came together! I would recommend this to fans of Sarah Dessen or Sandhya Menon! Anyone who loves drama kids, cute and flirty and fun conversations, the classic falling-for-someone-you-shouldn’t-fall-for trope, rom-coms, and fun drama would love this book! This was a wonderful debut novel! And I’ll be sure to check out more future books by the authors!
