Crooked Kingdom (Six of Crows #2) by Leigh Bardugo
Rating: 5/5
First book of the year started out strong! Leigh Bardugo does such an amazing job with complex plots and keeping you on the edge of your seat!
This sequel to Six of Crows was heart racing fun! Just when I thought I knew what was going to happen, something else happened and it was so so satisfying seeing everything click into place (only to be thrown into chaos again mwahaha). The characters are so interesting and as you all already know, character development is the best thing to exist. I just LOVED all of the characters and how they evolved! I can’t wait to read the Grisha trilogy (eventually)!
SO since this is a sequel, you’re probably going to see spoilers for Six of Crows… so LOOK AWAYYYY (My review for SoC is HERE).
So just like with SoC, don’t read this unless you can give it your full attention! I love following along on the beautiful journey, but it involves really paying attention. Obviously, the alternate chapters in different POVs is still there, and I loved continuing with all the characters.
It literally blows my mind how much intelligence and imagination that Leigh Bardugo must have to create such a brilliant world with brilliant characters and such a complex and mind-blowing plot! Every twist and turn had be gasping. No matter what I thought, something else would happen to throw me off the path.
Can we just take a moment to talk about how much all the characters grew? I CRYYYY! I already loved Kaz, but seeing him fight his battles was just heartbreaking and amazing! (Also, I won’t spoil, but at one point with the Jordie thing. IT BROKE ME.) Inej was brilliant and beautiful and I would probably thank her if she kicked me in the face! (Same with Nina–my absolute favorite!) Jesper and Wylan had such a cute story and oh my goodness I was so proud of them! SO. PROUD. FIGHT ME. And of course, Matthias! I love Matthias so much and his story with Nina and his GROWTH. AHHHH.
I can’t even talk about this properly because of my FEELINGS!
I would recommend this to anyone who loves dark, morally grey characters. heists, action, sassy little buggers that make you laugh and cry at the same time, and a wonderfully complex story of magic, love, and revenge!
I am practically am sob after reading Crooked Kingdom. I know?! Like where does she get these weaving power to tell such story and brilliance?
