There’s ONE WEEK LEFT until Love From A to Z comes out and so I’m starting off the countdown brought to you by the Street Team with something fun!
I thought I’d do a little post inspired by the art that brings Adam and Zayneb together in the book! They each have journals where they write down little marvels and oddities in their lives and honestly ever since I read the excerpt (It’s so perfect and LONG AND NOW I CAN’T WAIT) I kind of want to start journaling Marvels and Oddities in my life!
In case you haven’t heard of S.K. Ali’s second novel, here’s the synopsis:
A marvel: something you find amazing. Even ordinary-amazing. Like potatoes—because they make French fries happen. Like the perfect fries Adam and his mom used to make together.
An oddity: whatever gives you pause. Like the fact that there are hateful people in the world. Like Zayneb’s teacher, who won’t stop reminding the class how “bad” Muslims are.
But Zayneb, the only Muslim in class, isn’t bad. She’s angry.
When she gets suspended for confronting her teacher, and he begins investigating her activist friends, Zayneb heads to her aunt’s house in Doha, Qatar, for an early start to spring break.
Fueled by the guilt of getting her friends in trouble, she resolves to try out a newer, “nicer” version of herself in a place where no one knows her.
Then her path crosses with Adam’s.
Since he got diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in November, Adam’s stopped going to classes, intent, instead, on perfecting the making of things. Intent on keeping the memory of his mom alive for his little sister.
Adam’s also intent on keeping his diagnosis a secret from his grieving father.
Alone, Adam and Zayneb are playing roles for others, keeping their real thoughts locked away in their journals.
Until a marvel and an oddity occurs…
Marvel: Adam and Zayneb meeting.
Oddity: Adam and Zayneb meeting.
SO now without further ado, I’d like to share some of my own Marvels and Oddities. Please share some of yours too!
MARVEL: I’ve somehow made it to my final year of medical school.
ODDITY: I feel like I really don’t know anything?! Am I even prepared? How is there still so much to learn?!
MARVEL: I’ve read over 25 books already out of my goal of 40!
ODDITY: Have I spent more time reading fiction than my textbooks? It’s really quite possible and that’s freaking me out!
MARVEL: I met Roshani Choksi earlier this year! WHAT.
ODDITY: I had no idea what to say to Roshani Choksi… O.o
MARVEL: I’ve been living pretty much on my own for these last four years in a country I’ve only ever been in during vacations for weddings.
ODDITY: I learned Urdu first but I know English way better now?
MARVEL: I have travelled alone and been to multiple different countries (or at least their airports)
ODDITY: Traveling alone is… boring? And kind of nerve-wracking? Didn’t think it would be like that!
MARVEL: I started wearing my hijab and none of my friends even bat an eye. I was lucky enough to be around such great and accepting people.
ODDITY: People stare more in Pakistan when I’m wearing a hijab than in America? It’s weird.
MARVEL: There are so many amazing Muslim authors and I’m so hyped because I get to read so many amazing books by them!!!
ODDITY: I haven’t read soooooo many books by amazing POC and Muslims OH MY GOSH.
AND… that’s all for now! I’d love to here some of your random musings! What are some of your Marvels and Oddities?
