7 YEARS LATER: RE-READING THE LEGEND TRILOGY

SO with REBEL coming out so so soon, I really wanted to re-read the Legend trilogy because I honestly didn’t remember ANYTHING except the final scene in the last book (because it was heartbreaking for little me). Back then, little me didn’t write the reviews on Goodreads so I only have the last scene in my head PLUS the fact that I gave it 5 stars on GR. I didn’t know when I’d be able to read it, but then some lovely book twitter people decided to host a ReadAlong so I joined! Anyway, below are my mini reviews and thoughts!

I’m giving this a 4 stars. I had a good time reading this and slowly regained my memory of everything that happened over the course of the book. Though nothing really surprised me, I knew why little me rated it a 5! Now that I’ve read Marie Lu’s other works (and a whole collection of Dystopian novels), I know this could be better, but it was Marie Lu’s first book and she’s gotten SO MUCH BETTER since then (we’re disregarding WildCard in this scenario).

I really loved the revelations throughout the book. The world-building was great and I love the technology. Obviously Day and June are great but I can’t wait to see their growth!

Y’all I LITERALLY DON’T REMEMBER ANYTHING FROM THIS BOOK. I REMEMBERED ABSOLUTELY ZERO WHICH WAS GREAT BECAUSE I WAS ON THE EDGE OF MY SEAT THE ENTIRE TIME BECAUSE I HAD NO IDEA WHO TO TRUST OR WHAT WOULD HAPPEN OH MY GOSH.

There was ONE SCENE in particular that had me screaming because I only remember the epilogue of Champion and this was such a DIRECT PARALLEL TO THAT SCENE I DIED.

Anyway, the only thing that I don’t think I noticed when I first read this was that huge, gross age gap between Anden and June. *shudders* That was definitely weird. BUT I do like the little reference to Warcross in there since that came out after this but now we know the worlds might be connected in some way!

LET ME TELL YOU. I STILL FEEL THE SAME AFTER READING THIS THE SECOND TIME. THE ENDING WAS A PERFECTION OF HAPPY AND SAD AND IT BROKE ME. IT BROKE MY HEART. AND I LOVED EVERY SECOND OF THE MELANCHOLY ENDING.

I seriously cannot believe I only read this series once before this? I remember really enjoying it, but this was a new and fun experience. I knew vaguely what would happen but it was still like reading it for the first time!

I’m really glad I got to re-read this now because even though I think this trilogy had a really solid ending, I’m still intrigued by REBEL which comes out October 1st! I don’t really think that REBEL is necessary since I loved the way the trilogy wrapped up (I’m a sucker for a somewhat open-ending ending, because it leaves some room for hope and speculation). BUT… if I find it in the library or get to go to Marie Lu’s event, then I’ll definitely get it!

Have you read this trilogy? What do you think? Will you be checking out REBEL next month?

  1. I’m doing a reread right now too except I’m finding I remember a lot more than I think I do? I’m halfway through Prodigy and I’m still recalling plot point right before they happen.
I’ll be real with you though – I don’t remember the ending of the trilogy? (my brain trying to protect my fragile heart, maybe?)
I do remember being really surprised that Rebel was going to be a thing because I thought everything was wrapped up nicely.
I still absolutely cannot wait to get my hands on Rebel. I’m second in line on my library’s copy of the audiobook so I’ll hopefully be able to listen to it soon!
