evermore Original Book Tag

Taylor Swift really decided folklore wasn’t enough emotion and threw evermore at us so because I really loved creating the folklore book tag then I decided why not make another one for this album, especially because it’s supposed to be like a continuation of folklore!

This was especially difficult to come up with prompts specifically because I didn’t want it to be repetitive of the folklore one and because the lyrics in these songs were ones I really had to pay attention to to fully understand. A lot of these songs had very specific imagery and very specific messages that made it a bit more difficult to come up with broad prompts, so that was a fun challenge!

If you’d like to do this, feel free to use any of the graphics just tag me! I’d love to see your answers!

I knew I’d love this one because I loved cardigan so much. This was like a continuation of that story with the vibes of The Lakes which was really cool. It was so hard to pinpoint a good prompt for this because some of it vibed really well with friends-lovers and some vibed with enemies-lovers but overall, it was a story about going through lengths to find someone.

I would follow Shahrzad Al Khayzuran anywhere. I trust her with my entire life. And as a fun bonus, a book that kind of vibes with the following someone everywhere is Never Look Back by Lilliam Rivera.

I know this one is about a lot of different things, but I didn’t want to be repetitive by saying mental illness rep a sunken ship. But this song was definitely a story that had multiple sides and two POVs for me and made me feel like how I feel when I read a book with really interesting parallel scenes told from different perspectives.

A book I think odes a really good job with dual POV that has really great parallels is (yes, you guessed it) We Hunt the Flame! You just gotta love the perfection of “People Lived because she killed. People died because he lived.”

from the moment this song started I was hooked. It was so catchy and I loved the vibe. This felt like mirrorball part 2. This song kind of made me feel like how you’re really hyped about something but you’re scared that it’s going to let you down.

I’m so excited for Hana Khan Carries On and Misfit in Love! Muslim rom-coms for the win. I’m also excited for An Emotion of Great Delight but I’m a little hesitant because I don’t want the “I’m not like other Muslims” trope…

I was going to put holiday romance for this but that seemed like such an easy way out. And then I saw Sherna’s thoughts about the album in her twitter thread and she said this was definitely like a small town romance. AND IT FITS. SO WELL. And while I also think Dorothea sort of fits that vibe too, I put the prompt here because I really liked the storytelling in this. Make sure to follow Sherna on twitter and instagram!

The obvious choice here would be Small Town Hearts by Lillie Vale but I think I also want to include Get A Life Chloe Brown.

Ah, yes. Another track 5 that obliterated me. The thing that really hurt about this song was that it’s such a specific kind of pain when you realize that the effort you put into a relationship (whether it’s romantic or platonic) is not matched at all by the other party. The feeling of losing someone you care for. My first thought was unrequited love, but it just didn’t fit that specific hurt.

ALSO THE LYRICS I MADE YOU MY TEMPLE MY MURAL MY SKY?! EXCUSE ME?!

(I haven’t finished SKY yet I promise this isn’t spoilers)

This just screams Elias and Laia!

This one was. SO. FUN. I mean this one is self explanatory, right? Sure, murder mystery would work too but as someone who mainly reads fantasy and contemporary, that would have been difficult.

MY GIRL JULIETTE CAI OF COURSE. I mean, sure there are a lot of wonderful morally grey characters (or straight up villains) but I just think this song really fits for These Violent Delights.

before even listening to this song I knew that it was going to trick me with the title and actually be kind of heartbreaking. I loved the way the lyrics were about being heartbroken but then healing from it but also still looking back on it and remembering that kind of hurt.

I like to make myself suffer by re reading We Hunt the Flame or The Gilded Wolves or any of Marie Lu’s books to be honest.

This was difficult because this was so similar to ’tis the damn season and I think the stories connected for these two. Dorothea felt reminiscent of the Lucky One which was cool.

I mean… percy jackson of course. But also, the Gallagher Girls series and the Heist Society!

This one was difficult for me to really pinpoint because the story was so beautiful I kept getting lost in the song rather than trying to come up with something. I kept thinking about the pre chorus being about lost loves, but that didn’t feel quite right and then when I discussed it with Beatriz (Tagged below!) it just made sense to have this as star crossed lovers.

This kind of screams Severin/Laila to me. But also, it gives me a bit of Addie Larue vibes. When I talked to Beatriz about it, she mentioned “I wish my love was more beautiful.” and now this song is just extra pain.

The vibes for this song were immaculate. Absolutely beautiful. I loved the imagery especially. It reminded me of “i want to watch wisteria grow cuz I haven’t moved in years” and it was just kind of sweet and sentimental?

Okay but this is a song that works a little too well for when Finnick says Annie crept up on him! I think for this I’ll say the Daevabad trilogy. I didn’t expect to love the story as much as I did. And I definitely didn’t expect to be attacked the way I did when I saw Ali’s character growth.

This song had such a specific bonnie and clyde-esque story that it was fun to come up with a bookish prompt! In the end I went with cat and mouse games because that can be interpreted in many different ways, whether it be a character or a book that had twists and turns.

I love i when characters toy with each other in a flirty way especially if it’s sort of a enemies/rivals to lovers kind of situation. Hunted by the Sky sort of has this vibe. But also, Vicious by VE Schwab!

My first thought when listening to this was oh my gosh, this is a jam. Then I listened properly to the lyrics and was like OH it’s like I forgot that you existed, where it’s kind of funny kind of sad but overall a really fun song.

Probably a bunch of classics. Also, some books that I just really couldn’t enjoy even though I really tried were Cupid’s Match and Swear on this Life. I DNFed that first one and the second… I have no idea why I put myself through that torture.

That first stanza was just so absolutely wonderful and I was immediately just sucked in by the power of that advice. While I know there’s a whole lot more to this song than that, it just really stuck with me.

Once Upon and Eid! The Proudest Blue! Love From A to Z! Hey, look, all of these are by Muslims. NICE.

Okay, this song was extremely jarring for me. The track behind the lyrics threw me off and I feel like this will take some time to grow on me. But the song itself was interesting because it was like a big “Please, leave me alone I don’t want to think about the hurt you caused me”.

I’m not going to rant this time but Love, Hate, and Other Filters. I’m tired of this kind of narrative.

Exile part 2?! Oh my gosh, this was stunning. This had really similar themes to happiness so it was hard to come up with a prompt that wasn’t the same thing. While happiness also had that whole self discovery healing theme, this captured it in a more straightforward way in my opinion?

Frankly in Love! A Song Below Water. On the Come Up. All-American Muslim Girl. All of these books has characters that really had a profound journey of self discovery. There were happy times and sad times. And they were all powerful.

My overall thoughts for the album: I loved how the stories intertwined and this was clearly a separate album but also had the same vibes of folklore. My initial favorites I think will probably remain my favorites but Willow, Gold Rush, Long Story Short, No body no crime. I liked all of them though, except closure because it just really threw me off and I know it’s going to take time to grow on me.
