I received this audiobook for the publisher Macmillan Audio in exchange for a review. This does not affect my review which is unbiased and honest.

If you haven’t read the first book this may contain spoilers!

This book picks up right after the first one (if you remember how that ended you know it was INTENSE). This is a very character based fantasy, which y’all know is my jam. I loved all the little secrets that everyone kept from each other just because it was so funny to see everyone be so untrustworthy. I like hearing Fable’s thought process about everything, especially because she has this loyalty to her father but this new loyalty to her new crew of the Marigold.

I liked that the past sort of caught up to her (and to everyone else) and the storytelling was just so addicting without being so intense. A perfect audiobook to immerse myself in as I did other things!

While the story itself was just a little predictable it still had some aha! moments that I enjoyed. I especially loved near the end when everything culminated and came together really well. It was just a really nice wrap up to the duology, complete with pretty bow on top!

i think this book did a better job of exploring the characters than the first one so I enjoyed this more despite its predictability at times. It’s been a while since I finished the book so I can’t really explain all the details but I really loved the ocean adventure and family secrets and the vibes were enough to keep me into the story and I would honestly re read it!

if you enjoy searching underwater for rare treasures, doing anything for those you’ve loved or to get revenge, family secrets and flashbacks, blackmail and even more blackmail, and just an overall fun ocean tale, I would highly recommend this duology!
